Ryan J. Taylor asked:

Credit repair is not just for people who are not credit worthy. Anyone at any credit score can quickly increase their credit rating with just a few easy steps. Those who need to fix bad credit, however, will see the biggest improvement in their score by following these simple steps. As a result, not only will you be able to secure better rates on your loan, but you won’t have to worry about being denied for a rental application, a new job, or your home and auto insurance policy.

Whether you had a string of trouble that damaged your credit, or you just want to polish your credit report before you submit your mortgage application, these steps will help you boost your rating and make your more attractive to creditors and lenders.

1. Pay Your Bill: Obviously, your credit score is a direct reflection of how good you are at paying your bills on time, but it is important to stress exactly how vital this is to having a good credit score. If you have been routinely late in the past, change this behavior now so you can get on good graces with your creditor. Once you’ve established that you have turned a corner, they may be willing to remove the late payment incidents from your credit report, which would instantly increase your score.

2. Use Your Credit Cards: Contrary to popular belief that you should close your credit card accounts as a credit repair strategy, this will actually hurt you for two reasons. Once, your credit score looks at how much available credit you have been extended, and two, lenders want to see a long credit history. By closing your accounts you effectively eliminate both of those cases. Instead, use your credit cards liberally and pay them off in full each month. By doing this you maintain an active credit file that shows you are capable of managing debt, which lenders like to see.

3. Increase Available Credit: Your credit score looks at your available credit to debt ratio. In other words, the more credit you have but have not used, the better. Paying off your debts is an obvious way to do this, but you can also ask your credit card companies to raise your spending limit. A quick phone call can instantly improve your rating, as long as you don’t abuse that limit increase.

4. Pay More than the Minimum: By increasing your payments on your outstanding debt you effectively manage to tackle a number of credit repair strategies. For one, you improve your available credit to debt ratio. You also establish yourself as someone who is a responsible consumer and capable of managing money and debt effectively. All good things in the eyes of a lender.

5. Review Your Credit Report: There is a one in four chance that there are errors on your credit report, and these errors could be unfairly hurting your credit score. You should review your credit report every four months and immediately contact the reporting agency to notify them of any errors. By law they have 30 days to investigate and respond to anything you bring to their attention.

These five things will get you started with your credit repair process, but there are many more quick fixes that can instantly increase your credit score. Take the time to clean up your rating before applying for a loan or asking for credit, and lenders will be begging to do business with you.

Nathan

Jaff Freeding asked:

The time has come where you need to say I need to repair my credit rating.

Things have always been good. People work at jobs where they make a lot of money. Then they get themselves into trouble because they soon discover that even though they make a lot they end up spending more.

Its always about keeping up to the people around you. Just because your neighbor gets a new vehicle you decide you need a better one.

This kind of thing becomes contagious and addicting and before you know it you have the best of everything but no way to pay for it.

Your credit cards are maxed, your spending is out of control and you cant sleep at night. The first thing you start doing is making partial payments and then when that seems fruitless you stop paying all together.

This is about the time the phone starts ringing. At first you answer the calls, arrangements are made but once you cant fulfill your end of the bargain you start avoiding the phone calls. Now you are stressed, you cant sleep, you are arguing with your spouse and you are forever feeling sick.

Well I bet it doesn’t feel so good now to be trying to keep up to the people around you. By now it really is time to take action. You have really done a number with your credit and all you can do now is move forward and say to yourself I will repair my credit rating.

There will be tough decisions to make. they are made even tougher by the fact that you have been living the high life for so long and now you are going to be brought back to earth.

It is time to get rid of the toys that you really never needed in the first place. There are plenty of things you will need to work on restoring your credit but they will only work once you have promised yourself that you are going to do what ever it takes to make things right. You have to learn to enjoy the simpler things in life because that’s all you are going to have for a long time.

Building your credit back up isn’t going to happen over night no matter how discipline you are. There will be a lot of changes in your life and only you can make sure you stick to them.

So if you here yourself say I need to repair my credit rating make sure you are in for the long haul.

Michele

Tim Gorman asked:

If you have been refused loans or credit recently and think you may have a low rating, then you may be wondering how to increase your credit score. The credit report companies use a variety of methods to determine what your credit score should be. When you know how they work out your credit score, this can give you a greater chance of being able to repair it. Although it may seem very difficult to raise your credit score, once you know how it is calculated, it is really just a matter of being careful and reliable in your financial dealings. Then the credit report companies will see you as being more reliable and give you a higher credit rating.

How to increase your credit score, is really just working out what the problems are, and why the credit report companies are giving you a low score and then doing something to fix it. About a third of your credit score is based on whether you make your payments on time. If you have had problems with this in the past, then the best way improve this is to make sure your payments for bills, credit cards and debt repayments are made on time, or early. This will let the credit report company know that you are more likely to make payments on time in the future and this will increase your score for this part of the credit report and accounts for about 35% of the total.

They will also look at the amount of debt you have as opposed to your income. Another area that you should look at is that you have no more than 30 to 60% of the credit on your credit cards in use. If necessary, you can spread the debts over several cards rather than keeping a large amount on one card. If you’re wondering how to increase your credit score then this is one of the easiest ways and accounts for around 30% of the credit score. The rest of the total is made up from smaller items such as, how long your credit history is, whether you have applied for too many new accounts and also the types of credit that you currently have.

If you need to know how to increase your credit score, then there are a few simple adjustments that you can make to increase it. First you need to check the accuracy of the reports, to make sure that they have not made any mistakes. You also need to make all your payments, whether for bills or credit, on time. You may need to reduce outstanding debts and it may be best not to take on any new credit. This will help you to improve your credit score and make it more likely for the providers of financial products to view you as a good and reliable customer.

Chad

Joseph Kenny asked:

Your credit rating is important. It may determine whether you can get a car loan or a mortgage. But do you understand the elements that decide whether your credit request is approved or denied? Here’s what you need to know about your credit rating.

What Is A Credit Rating?

When people apply for loans, credit cards, store cards or mortgages) they are scored according to factors in their application and their credit history. This effectively makes up their credit rating and determines whether lenders think they are a good risk. The credit history looks at areas such as:

Whether people have recently applied for credit

How long they have had credit

What type of credit they have had (such as different types of loans, credit cards or a mortgage)

How much money they owe in total

What their payment history is.

Lenders are particularly concerned with whether people have paid the specified repayments on time. Although one or two late payments may not unduly affect a person’s credit rating, regular late payments will raise question marks for lenders.

Looking Into Your Financial History

Lenders are also concerned about other aspects of people’s financial history. For example, lenders will want to know:

Whether people have had any County Court Judgements (CCJs) against them

Whether they have ever been made bankrupt

Whether they have ever defaulted on a loan or credit card

Whether they are in arrears on existing loans or credit

How many credit applications they have made recently

Whether they have been turned down for credit in the past

Much of this information is held in reports compiled by credit reference agencies. Equifax and Experian are the largest and best known credit reference agencies in the UK. People can find out what information is held about them by paying a small fee and requesting a copy of their credit report.

Other criteria that affect approval for credit are on lenders’ individual application forms. These might include whether people own or rent their homes and whether people are employed (full-time or part-time), self-employed or unemployed. Lenders also look into existing salary and outstanding credit.

How To Get Credit With A Poor Rating

Although having a poor credit rating can make it difficult to get credit, this does not mean it is impossible. Options for getting credit include:

Loans which are secured on the value of the property owned by the applicant
a higher interest credit card, with an interest rate that reduces once the holder shows a good payment history

A prepaid credit card, which works like a mobile phone top up card

Some people have a poor credit rating even when they have no CCJs or arrears on their credit report. This might apply to self-employed people (such as taxi drivers, market traders, hairdressers and other small business people). These people have similar options for getting credit. And they don’t have to live on the streets, either. There are self-certification mortgages to enable self-employed people to buy houses.

Scott

Gressly Stevens asked:

When it comes right down to it you already know that there are many reasons that you are judged by your credit every single time you try to make a financial decision and even for employment anymore. This is why you have to check your credit rating at least twice a year. There are many things that you have to understand about credit and why you have to keep yours under control and check it from time to time. Here are some helpful credit tips for you.

1. Understanding your Report

It would do you very little good to pull your credit report twice a year if you have no idea what it means and how to read it. There are two basic categories that will consume the majority of your report, the paid on time side, and the not paid on time side. The paid on time side will be listed first and it will have all the different debts, credit cards, and loans that you are currently paying on and you are on time with. The not paid on time side will be all the different debts that you have ever paid on late, even if it was just one payment.

2. What to look for when you check your credit rating

Your actual rating is also known as your FICO score. This is what you are judged on and when you check your credit rating you need to be looking to see what is on your report. You need to make sure that your report is correct and all the debts listed are yours. If there are debts on your report that do not belong to you, then you need to contact the credit bureau and get these debts off your report.

3. Changing your Rating

The best way to change your rating when it comes to credit is to pay off debts on the not paid on time or delinquent side of your report. You do not have to pay off the largest debts to get your rating to go up. If you have any smaller debts on this side of your report you can pay them off one by one and this will help you to raise your FICO score and get to the point where getting financing is easier.

Grace

Frank L Froggatt asked:

There are millions of people in the U.S. today struggling to get by with lousy credit. If you are one of them, and have been looking for ways to improve your score, the following information could prove beneficial to you.

Each of us is permitted one free credit report per year. You can use that free report to find out what is causing your score to be so low. Its also an opportunity to determine if there are an mistakes on your report so you can take steps to have them fixed should you find any.

Be sure that any debts you have paid off are reflected on your report. For some reason many companies don’t report that last payment, so your report looks as though you still owe money on an account that has been paid in full.

You should be aware that each time your report gets looked at by a creditor, it shows. Several inquiries will damage your rating and reduce your score. Be exceedingly particular about who you let pull your report.

Collection companies can do terrible damage to one’s beacon score. They often list the same past due accounts repeatedly making it appear that you’ve neglected several accounts when it is really just one.

Paying off an older overdue balance before applying for a home loan will hurt your rating by making that balance a current collection. This will do short term damage to your score.

The balance you carry on credit cards can have it’s effect against your score as well. Very high balances and maxed out cards lower your score significantly. Even if you always make the payments on time. Consistently using only half your available balance will help raise your score.

Beacon scores are also affected by how long you’ve had a line of credit. Say for instance you got a charge card in college. If you still have that old card and have consistently paid it, this helps your rating. The opposite holds true as well. New cards, recent loans, and such have a negative impact on scores until enough payments have been made to establish that you are responsible about paying.

So to repair your score the first step is to check your report, noting any mistakes or duplicate reporting so you can have them removed. Remember ignoring the problem will not make it go away. The first step is always action. Inaction will get you nowhere.

Lydia

John F Smith asked:

If you are living a life with a bad credit rating, then try to rebuild your credit rating again. Here are ways that are guaranteed to help you build a solid and perfect credit rating.

If your monthly billing statement arrives, pay it on time. Paying your bills late will cause a negative effect on your credit appearance and rating as well. Also, you will be charged with penalties for being late. If you have a number of credit cards in your possession, try to reduce it. It would be very easy for you to have debt on a single provider and you will be less tempted to purchase things that are beyond your capacity to pay them at the same time. Avoid bankruptcies because it stays for up to ten years on your credit report. You are also to avoid collection accounts and tax liens. The former stays on your credit record for seven years while the latter is worse because its stays forever. Submit a letter informing your provider to reduce your credit limits to lower amount. Although you don’t owe them anything, the amount of available credit is considered by lenders.

Other than that, you may ask a friend or family member to co-sign on a credit card to help you rebuild your credit standing. Moreover, you can get yourself a secured credit card. However, you must deposit certain amount of cash in a savings account so that your provider can get that money if you can’t pay what you owe them. The deposited amount will sometimes be the basis of your credit limit.

These are just some guaranteed tips on how to rebuild your credit rating. Everyone deserves a second chance to do better. So get you gas credit now for the second time around.

Timothy
